Class 4
As part of our literacy lessons, we have been discussing the positive and negative aspects of graffiti. We have learnt to write balanced arguments about this controversial form of modern art - although we also found out that graffiti is actually an ancient greek word.
In ancient times graffiti was carved on walls with a sharp object, although sometimes chalk or coal were used. The word originates from Greek— graphein — meaning "to write." In modern times it has come to mean writing, painting or spraying on property, constituting a form of vandalism. However, in recent years, graffiti has been recognised as a new style of art, closely linked to youth, music and street culture.
During art lessons we learnt how to design and develop 'tags' , then 'throw ups', adding features such as drop shadows and 3D blocks. We put these up on our 'designated' graffiti wall of course.
Can you guess who we are from our tag names?
