Jessie Owens
We made medals to represent the amazing athletic achievements of Jessie Owens, a black African American who competed in the 1936 Olympic Games in Germany.
In one week in the summer of 1936, Jessie, who was the grandson of a slave, showed the world that it didn't matter who you were, what colour you were or where you came from; everyone could achieve something great in life. At the time, Adolf Hitler was in power in Germany and believed that only white people were capable of great achievements. Jessie showed him that his ideas were completely wrong, ridiculous and even evil.
