                                     2.   Creative Writing:

After half-term (next week),  we will have all been living through this strange time for an incredible 10 weeks.

I have been thinking of the best way to finish our literacy off this half-term.   So,  your task today is to totally let your creative writing and poetry skills run free: your job is to put all your experiences  from the last 9 weeks into words.

Create your own personal lockdown poem - create something beautiful and thoughtful,  funny and sad, emotive and poignant - tell everyone baout your expereince of these strange, historic times..   I'll have a go below to give you the idea - but I know you'll create something powerful and stunning.

If you want some inspiration now,  here is 'The Rainbow Children',, a poem about you guys by Gemma Peacock,  a mum with children at home during lockdown.

                      Thursday 21st May

                                 1.   Writing and Vocabulary:

    1. Lots of great new vocabulary in our comprehensions this week. Let's see if we now know what they mean and if we can use them in a new context.

    Your task:

    1.  Choose 6 words from the list below.

.- you can use either of the two versions.

    2.  Write down the word, followed by what it means - its definition.  Get used to using a real dictionary if you have one - if you haven't got one at homee, you could use an online dictionary.

    Challlenge 1:

Write a sentence using the word in its correct context.- so it makes sense in the situation you are writing about and you are using the correct meaning of the word.

    Challenge 2:

Write a complex sentence, using linking punctuation ( ; - :), or a great conjunction (have a lok at yesterdays grammar task) and using the word in its correct context.

    Challenge 3:

When you have finished writing the definitions,  include as many of the words as you can in one short paragraph based around  a wizardry and magical type story paragraph - as we have done some great Harry Potter writing this week.

Obviously you will be using a full range of punctuation to help really say what you mean to say.

    contrpation muffle / muffled scrawny
    wrenched      perplexed

    harness ' harnessing

(not the climbing harness, the verb)

    tend / tending thieving shrouded
    merciful reclaim / reclaimed

                       Our Literacy Heritage

    Task 2 :  Investigate Shakespeare

Earlier in the year, we read our Shakespeare play, The Tempest, and discovered how Shakespeare was so skilled at weaving storylines and characters together.  But did you know just how important he is to our whole language?

If you ever hear adults say that they don't  like Shakespeare, and he's boring,  well,  little do they know, they are probably quoting Shakespeare every day of their lives ithout knowing it.

Have a go at this Shakespeare phrases task - you may have to do some reaearch on the web about the play where the phrase comes from.

Download the Task here and complete it in your book.

Challenge task - how many every day phrases are thought to have been invented by Shakespeare?.

                        Writing: The Cart Scene

This week,  we are going to be looking at writing reviews for films and books,  but for today, I thought it would be great to start off with some pure creative , dramatic writing,  where you can let yourself free with your skills.  I've created a video clip from Harry Potter, The Deathly Hallows, which I want you to bring alive in text.

You can alter the ending and elements of the scene , and I've added my efforts to help you out of you are a little unsure.

Watch the video below,  then off you go.  It might help to create plan to organise your thoughts:

This is your chance to add your ideas to the Harry Potter story.  The heroes are racing through the Gringott’s Bank underground vaults and caverns.  You need to write an action packed, dramatic paragraph,  describing how the heroes are being chased in their rail-carts by the evil Bellatrix.

Click here for some extra guidance and I've also written an example to support your ideas.
