Wednesday 17th June:
1. The answer to yesterday's devious puzzle is below:
The answer is 16... NOT 20. Each day , the worm effectively only makes it 1metre upwards by the time he starts the next day, so after 15 days he has travelled 15 metres up. The next morning he then climbs another 5 m and makes it to the top (20 metres). So the answer is 16 days: the rain later that day doesn't matter as he's reched the 20m top.
2. Today's Challenge:
A ship is at anchor in the bay. It has a rope ladder hanging down to the surface of the sea. The ladder is 12 metres long, and the gap between each step on the ladder is 0.5 metres. The first step is 0.5 metres from the bottom of the ladder..
If the tide rises 1 metre every half hour, how long before the first 5 steps are under water?:

Thursday 18th June:
1. The answer to yesterday's devious puzzle is below:
This is another question where you really need to pay attention... when the tide rises, the ship also rises with it, the water will not rise up the side of the boat covering the ladder. The sea will never cover the ladder at all.

Friday 19th June:
1. The answer to yesterday's devious puzzle is below
If you assume they weigh about the same (although the £10 note is very very very slightly smaller than the £20 note).
If you had 4kg of £10 and 4kg of £20, you'd chose the £20 notes of course - it would be worth twice as much.
If you had half as much weight in £20 notes, i.e 2kg. they'd both be the same value in money.
But you have 3kg of £20 so you'd get more vaue as it's more than half.
2. Todays Challenge:
Jim went to a game store and bought a chess set and a book which together cost £12.50. The chess set cost £2.50 more than the book.
How much did each one cost?
