    Monday 1st March:

    Netball Workout and Handling Skills

This week,we will continue our introduction to High-5 netball before returning to school next week.

    Your Task:

Choose the PE session netball routine (videos below) which best suits your situation at home:

    - If you want a full workout, choose the last one, which is about a 25 minute session covering lots of excercises , balance and ball skills.

    - The first 2 are more focused on handling skills.

    - The third one is great if you can use a wall outside and you have a netball or football to use.

REMEMBER: IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT A NETBALL OR FOOTBALL TO USE, JUST USE A TAPED TOILET ROLL - IT WORKS JUST FIINE FOR THE ROUTINES.

It's important you find some time each day this week to practise these skills - when you come back to school, we'll be focusing on Hi-5 netball.

I've re-posted the video to explain Hi-5 netball for those of you who have forgotten or never played before.

Monday 22nd Feb: Netball Footwork Skills

This term, we are going to be improving our netball skills (and learning new skills to improve our game).

We start this week with a focus on footwork,  with some useful ball handling skill drills to practise every day this week as well.

    Your Task:

Watch the 3 instruction videos and carry out the repetitions it suggests (usually 5 of each set).

It's important you find some time each day this week to practise these skills - when you come back to school, we'll be focusing on Hi-5 netball ( we are still the double year mixed Norfolk School Games county champions of course).

I've also added a great video to explain Hi-5 netball to those of you who have forgotten or never played before.

    1. Footwork - Figure of  8s:  Click here for video 1

    2. Footwork - Quick Feet : Click here for video 2

    3. Ball Handling:  Click here for video 3

    Helpful Advice for Your Lesson:

It will help greatly if someone at home can help out with adding the ball element in - the videos show you when to do this.

If there is no-one to help:

    1.  You could try using a wall at home to bounce the ball off (if you are allowed to - Check with an adult first)

    2.  Continually hold the ball during the footwork actvitiy, then throw it high and jump with arms stretched as high as you can to take the ball out of the air.  This will allow you to add that extra catching skill practise)

             Week Beginning 1st February

                             Daily Avengers Warm-Up:

Start the day off with a good warm-up

            Monday Speed Bounce Training -

Follow the instructions, watch the video, and start to improve your speed bounce personal best.  We are using a time of 20 seconds.

Our best year 6s in last few years have hit 60  plus in 20 seconds over the standard 20 cm barrier.

You must first carry an appropriate warm-up. These stretxches hes below are ideal to prepare for this jump.  CLick on the stretch to find out how to do it:

Watch the First Speed Bounce Video for tips on how to do this at home.

    Speed Bounce Video 1:

This is much easier at home, as your barrier (which could be a towel as shown in the video, may not be as high), but speed bounce is one of the best fitness and control events we do.

Our target over the coming weeks is to beat 40 in 20 seconds. Remember, this will get tougher when we return to school and use the 20cm barrier, so the more you can do now at hoe, the better.m

This extra video I have found is a great triaing routine you can do inside - it will improve your stamina for this really tough event.

    Speed Bounce Grid Training:

Keep a note of your personal best  as next Monday will be our end of half term personal best seesion in all theree events (long jump, vertical jump and speed bounce)vertical jumping distance, Class 4.

                Monday 25th January PE:

                 Vertical Jump Training -

              Improve Your Personal Best

Follow the instructions, watch the video, and start to improve your vertical jumping distance, Class 4.

Our target over the coming weeks is to smash 30cm and

    above.

The vertical jump test is a test of lower body power. The test was first described nearly 100 years ago (Sargent, 1921). The procedure below describes the method used for directly measuring the vertical jump height jumped.

Purpose: to measure the leg muscle power

    Procedure :

    1.  The athlete stands side on to a wall and reaches up with the hand closest to the wall. Keeping the feet flat on the ground, the point of the fingertips is marked or recorded.

    2.  The athlete then stands away from the wall, and leaps vertically as high as possible using both arms and legs to assist in

    projecting the body upwards.

Click here for an excellent instructional

                                 video to help you

    3. Attempt to touch the wall at the highest point of the jump. The difference in distance between the standing reach height and the jump height is the score.

                The 2020 Summer Lockdown:

What we Got Up To Last Year

    Week beginning 22nd June:

                Chance to Shine Cricket Week:

Have a look at Monday's cricket ball catch challenge...great shapes...

At Wreningham we love playing cricket in the summer, and I have been looking for some good cricket activities to help make up for us missing our cricket tournaments this year.

This week's activities are supported by some amazing England players, who will talk you through their challenges: we'll be doing this in school, so hope you join in at home - even better if you can get out to a field or big space.

Monday 22nd June marks the start of Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week with a programme of cricket-themed activities across the week created by national children’s cricket charity Chance to Shine and led by cricketing heroes including England's Mark Wood, Michael Vaughan and Heather Knight.

The activities include fun, cricket training sessions to develop their physical skills as well cricket-themed lessons to support children’s learning in subjects like English and Geography.

    Monday's Task:

Watch the video from Mark Wood, and meet the challenge.  If you want to do the additional 'make a bat ' activity, that would be great if you don't have one at home - it might be useful for other activities this week.

Click here for Monday's cricket video from Mark Wood

I have added their instruction sheet here, as well (although all resources are available on their webpage).

Don't forget to send me some photos of you doing the challenge - looking forward to seeing some amazing shapes before you catch that ball.  Aim to throw as hogh as you can(but don't lose your ball in next door's garden)

    Tuesday's Task:

Watch the video from Michael Vaughan, and meet the challenge.  If you want to do the additional 'junior journalist' actvity ' activity, have a go.

Click here for Tuesday's video from Michael Vaughan

    Wednesday'sTask:

Watch the Cricket Fit video from Charlotte Edwards, and meet the challenge.  Please have a look then at the Wellbeing activity with a very famous and brilliant cricketer from the past , Devon Malcolm.

Click for Wednesday's video from Charlotte Edwards

    Thursday'sTask:

Watch the 'Top of Off' video from Heather Knight (England Women's Captain), and meet the challenge.

Please have a look then at the Geography related activity about where tea comes from - as this week ids supported by Yorkshire tea - and tea is a very British drink associated with an afternoon watching cricket :)

Click for Thursday's video from Heather Knight

    Friday'sTask:

Watch the 'All Round Challenge' video from England's Sam Billings, and meet the challenge.

Today,  there's additional cooking activity.  You could make some cricket ball cupcakes if you have the ingredients... have a look at their activity sheet if you want to do this.

Click for Friday's video from Sam Billings

    Week beginning 15th June:

    Hand-Eye Co-ordiantion Skills

Skill 1:  The Elbow Coin Catch Challenge

                            News Just In :

OR has the record of 20 coins at present.

Watch the attached video by a strange teacher and see how far you can push the challenge.

What is the largest pile of coins you can balance and catch?

Can we get some real skyscrapers?

If you are claiming a record,  we'll need proof !

Click here to see the elbow catch

The trick is to be quick and don't forget to grab the coins tightly.

THIS IS AN ACTIVITY WHICH IS FAR SAFER TO DO OUTSIDE, AS WE DON'T WANT COINS FLYING AT THE TV ?

    Skill 2:   Introduction to Juggling

This week, we will start to learn how to juggle confidently and competently.  Year 6 will also be doing this in class with their own set of juggling balls (so we can keep safe)

Here's a quick downloadable film I have found which covers the basics really well.

Click here for the quick basics video

I have looked at lots of videos on youtube about teaching juggling,  and this one takes you through it really well.

Click for the Dutch Champion Juggler Lesson

( a little longer than the quick basics ...it will take you through the steps more precisely)
