1. Today, if you have time, and continuing tomorrow, you can be working on really editing your Wing story. Remember, we are writing a story which is at a deeper level than a simple storybook story - we want decription, and tension and atmosphere, and a real sense that this story has a powerful message.
Tips: If your story looks finished in one poaragraph, look again - there should be a paragraph for each element of the story.

2. Building the wing
3. The fall and capture
4. The rescue
5. The escape together.
There is lots of great imagery in this film, so use it well to create your atmosphere, excitement, sadness and an uplifting ending.
We've had some excellent idea on how to tranlste this story into another context including dragons, turtleson the beach and playground bullies, as well as using the original characters.

2. Creative Writing:
1. Today, we are going to use a resource we will use lots in the future, 'The Literacy Shed' .
Task 1 :
Watch this short film and make a mind map of the plot. You are going to write your own version. This story has a pertinent theme at the moment - that together, we are stronger.
See if you can separate the main story events in 4 - 6 ideas.

Task 2:
Choose Your Challenge:
Challenge 1.
Begin writing the story of what you have just seen, with its beginning, middle and end. Use the same types of characters and make sure you use:
1. THE HIGHEST QUALITY VOCABULARY
2. YOU CAN USE EITHER THE FIRST OR THIRD PERSON: WRITE AS IF YOU WERE THE FIRST WINGED CREATURE, OR THE RESCUER, OR WRITE AS IF YOU ARE THE NARRATOR.
2. IMPECCABLE, SPELLING
3. POWERFUL, PRECISE, ATMOSPHERIC DESCRIPTION
4. FULL RANGE OF PUNCTUATION
...and create something engaging.
Challenge 2/3 - Extreme .
Change the setting and typr of charcters but keep the theme and outcome of the story the same - using strong elements and ideas from ther film.
e.g The dark force oppressing the seeningly helpless protagonist; the sacrifice made by someone who is willing to do anything to help; and the realisation that together, we are stronger and can defeat anything- (a phrase which describes this: the whole is often more than the sum of its parts)
Ideas on how you can modify the story:
- A science fiction version - robot slaves in a human world,
- A historic version - slaves in Roman/Greek times - the flying may be translated to rowing away over a river .
- Dragons hunted by knights and 'heroes'
We will be working on this story for the next couple of days.
