                       This Weeks Activities:

                            Instructions are in RED

                    Friday 26th June:

Well,  we have come to our final lesson in signing,  and I hope you've all really enjoyed learning something new.  Our final lesson with Tyrese is about some fun words.  Have a go !

I hope you've enjoyed learning  British Siggn Language as much as I've enjoyed being Mr Tyrese!  Today is our final lesson, and I thought I'd show you some fun words to sign.  Here we go:

Click for today's Tyrese lesson about fun words

You might be wondering why I’ve been using all this extra time to teach you to sign. Apart from the chance to get dressed up, I wanted to help you chat to more people, whatever their disability might be. After all, no one likes feeling left out.

I love it when people make the effort to have a chat with me, even if their signs aren’t perfect. So don’t worry about getting it wrong.

I know I’ve been an excellent teacher, but even I’m still learning about sign language all the time, so I hope you don’t stop here either!

If I ever bump into you outside class in future, wouldn’t it be cool to both be able to sign?

Thanks so much for joining me at Sense Sign School!

    Mr Tyrese

                      Friday 5th June:

I love going on Sense Holidays – we get to go somewhere in England or Wales for a week of new experiences. I’m Deaf with limited sight but the volunteers make sure that no one misses out, shaping activities around all of our individual needs. We have a lot of fun together, trying things we wouldn’t normally get the chance to!

It’s great to meet other people like me, make lots of new friends and do something new. I’ve been sailing, indoor skiing, cycling and climbing! Plus it means my Mum can relax too, although she doesn’t have as much fun as me!

For your homework today, how about practising your weather signs? They’re really easy to remember!

                      Friday 22nd May:

I've posted Lesson 2 again (which I added last week as an extra),  so have a go at food and drink if you didn't get chance last week  Remember , you can scroll down to the previous weeks' signing for extra video help on words.

Click here for the Lesson 2 - Food & Drink

I've also added lesson 3 with an introduction from Tyrese about hobbies and entertainment:

I love watching Wolves FC play football, and luckily my Sense support worker is a fan too, so we’ve been to some games together!

Through Sense I’ve been going to Deaffest for several years. It’s a cool event where I watch Deaf films and meet Deaf filmmakers. I like events like this because I can be myself and not have to worry about communication. If more people knew how to sign, I’d find it much easier to go to new places and make new friends too!

Homework time! Try to sign along with me in the video as I go through the film genres. Once you’ve got the hang of it, why not show everyone how it’s done?

Click here for the Lesson - Entertainment

While we’re all having more home movie nights, why not choose a film with a sign language interpreter? You might be surprised by how many new words you pick up.

That’s it for today! If you’re dreaming of a holiday, you’ll need to join me ton the next lesson – see you then!

    Mr. Tyrese

                         Friday 15th May:

Today we are back to a normal week, so its signing time.  I've been looking for different ways to carry on our learning and this is my favourite.  I have signed up for these short lessons from the SENSE charity - who help people with all sorts of difficult challenges like deafness and blindness.

The great thing is, the lessons are taught by Tyrese - who has just a brilliant personality and is really fun to watch and learn.  I've added the message from Tyrese in front of each lesson.

                                  Lets see how you do:

    .

I’ve always been Deaf, but as soon as my Mum, Nan and Grandad could, they started learning sign language to make life easier for me. Mum looks for Deaf-friendly events we can go to like Deaf clubs, and she makes sure I have a BSL interpreter whenever she knows I’ll need one.

Sense is like another part of my family. They’ve been with me since I was six months old, and without the Sense support workers I’ve had like Diane and Anne, there’s no way I’d have had the confidence or independence to be sat here teaching you sign language!

Now, onto your homework. How about using my lesson to practise signing the members of your family? Give it a go in the mirror or post a video for your friends using #SenseSignSchool

Next lesson  is food and drink. But that doesn’t mean you can bring any – I like my classroom tidy thank you! See you then.

                      Friday 1st May:

Our signing task today is to go back and practise our letters from last week.  We need to keep practising until we can just do them without thinking.

    Eureka Signing Video Link

This week, we are looking at how to express feelings and emotions - which is probably the most important signing we can learn:

Here is the list of emotions it would be useful to learn this week:

happy,  sad,  excited,  upset,  confused,  shocked,  tired, relieved,  angry

Click here to go to find the video sign for the emotion: just type in the sign in the search box and press search - there are sometimes different ways to sign it

There's also a handy help sheet to print out and stick on the walls around the house.

                             Just click here.

                      Friday 24th April:

Your Friday challenge today is to learn to spell your name and say 'My name is  ........' - the girl in the video shows you how to do it at the end.

See how many letters you can learn today - we are going to do different tasks every Friday and I am going to learn with  you.

I've found a handy alphabet sheet here for you to download  - stick it on your wall if you can print it - or save it and load it up every day on your screen.

Here's the handy Right-Handed signing alphabet  sheet

Here's the handy Left-Handed signing alphabet  sheet

Send me a photo of you signing,  so we can make a signing wall.

                     Teacher Goes Back to School:

I am now starting a full online course for fun with

british-sign.co.uk,  after I've sorted out all the web stuff in the evening.    This has ten lessons (a lesson is 1 to 2 hours),  so hopefully I'll learn something new and be able to help you out.

Its not really for under 12s,  but it does say If you are really interested and passionate about learning this, an adult could support an under 12.  If so, ask your parents to have a look - they might want to do this with you.  It does cost some money,  but there is an offer on the site which they can read about.

    Wish me luck!!
